Church music sessions

Members of the Church of God will be running Music Workshops on August 5 and 12 at their Fry’s Road premises

These will begin with half-hour workshops as an introduction to playing the tin whistle.

You will learn the notes and then try some very simple tunes. You will need to bring your own tin whistle (a standard one in the key of D) but some basic whistles may be available to buy on the day.

The cost will be £1 per person. A Slow Session will provide an opportunity for local people to play together with others of similar ability who share the same interest in traditional music. It is for relative newcomers to traditional music and the speed of music will be slow enough for newcomers to join in, but fast enough to still be musical.

All instrumentalists are welcome to join in and the music is chosen from well-known traditional Irish and Scottish tunes. Tunes are provided (in conventional and abc notation) to allow participants to work on the tunes between the sessions. The more you learn, the more you can join in!

You can take a break at any time during the session and join back in when you want. Cost £2 per person During a Worship Music Workshop participants will work on a few hymns and modern worship songs during these sessions. All instrumentalists are welcome to attend these workshops and music will be provided in conventional and abc notation. The music will be suitable for anyone who has completed the beginner keyboard and guitar workshops, and organisers hope to see a whole range of instruments taking part. Simpler parts will be available for the less advanced players.

Cost £2 per person

A Shalom Session for ages 35+ is also planned. This will be a very relaxed half-hour sessions of quieter worship music. All instruments and all levels welcome. There is no need to read music.
