Ciara snaps up NME Photography Award

A talented Portstewart student is one of the runners-up in the prestigious NME Photography Awards with Nikon.

Ciara McMullan’s stunning photograph - taken at a gig in Portrush - was selected from a UK-wide entry of more than 7,000.

Currently studying in London, 22-year-old was thrilled to receive an e-mail informing her of award last week.

“The winners were actually announced with a two page spread in NME magazine this week,” she said.

“Unfortunately I wasn’t one of them, but I’ll either a runner up or highly commended which is awesome because over 7,000 people entered.

“I’m waiting to hear back from the organisers but getting to this stage is great.”

“They picture they selected also won a competiton last year and was exhibited along with 12 other photographers in the Ulster Hall with Carrie Davenports Exhibition called ‘Take a picture it will last longer’.

“It was taken at the Retro in Portrush a few years ago and it’s of local band And So I Watch You From Afar.

Ciara has been invited to attend a private viewing of her photo and the other winning images at The Getty Images Gallery in London on next Wednesday when she will receive her prize.

The daughter of Julie and Peter McMullan, Ciara has just finished a two year course in Broadcast Operations and is now studying for a BA (Hons) in Production at Ravensbourne.

The winning NME photographs will be on exhibition until December 1.
