First auction of new season

McAfee Auctions start off a new season of auction this Thursday, with an 800 lot sale in there Ballymoney sale room.

Primarily the contents of a property in Ballymena and Hollywood together with other properties, the sale includes a good mix of antique and general furniture, including a good number of pieces of pine furniture, three pianos, including a very fine small scale piano, lots of collectibles, paintings, a collection of smaller pieces of silver including a three piece silver tea service, and a good selection and variation of jewellery.

Among the larger pieces of furniture is an extending dining room table, seven piece mahogany dining room table and chair set, a very nice two door bookcase, double pedestal writing desk and an executive swivel chair, fine three door wardrobe, selection of nice chests, seven piece stag bedroom suite, good kitchen and chair sets, two kitchen two door cabinets, three piece leather suite, three piece berger suite, two two seater settees, inlaid mahogany shaped front sideboard, two two door credenzas, selection of side tables, and other occasional chairs, four door breakfront modern bookcase, mirror backed sideboard, selection of occasional armchairs, corner chairs, pairs chairs, hall chairs etc.

Paintings include works by Sam McLarnon, Roy Edward, J Macdonald, Gregory Moore, D Mathews, R Witchard, J P Rooney, Liam Reilly, G Healy, Con Campbell, G E Brook, J Boyd, E M Beresford, S Murray etc. A selection of prints is also included and includes a nice set of six framed prints, a ‘Joey Dunlop’ print and a set of seven ‘Spy’ prints etc.

Collectibles include pieces of Belleek, ruby, Worcester, a selection of Doultons and hummel figurines, spelter, lustre, crystal including Waterford and Tyrone, oil lamps, Arthur Wood, Dresden, two Francis Clarke porcelain plaques, a collection of old and more modern masons ironstone, miniatures, Hamersley dessert set, tea and dinner sets, jug and basin sets, collectors plates, capidmonte, Staffordshire, cutlery including bone handled knives, silver plate, lots of small silver pieces including candlesticks, cutlery, dressing table pieces, photo frames, condiments, hip flask, letter openers, comports etc.

Smaller lots include barometers, wall and mantle clocks, two three fold screens, music cabinet, library chair, overmantles and wall mirrors, standard lamps, nest of tables, plant stands, occasional tables, grand daughter clock, set of six pine kitchen chairs, pair of Windsor style armchairs, writing bureau, rocking chair, jardinière, Sutherland tables etc.

The selection of pine furniture includes a four door kitchen press, pine wardrobes, nice pine chests, pine two door wall cabinet, plate racks, set of six kitchen chairs, wall units etc.

A nice selection of jewellery including a selection of 9ct and 18ct gold, diamond, emerald, ruby, bloodstone, topaz, solitaire rings, a fresh water pearl necklace, a 9ct rose gold bracelet, silver and gold brooches, 9ct gold ladies bracelet watch, selection of gents pocket watches and ladies pendants. Watches include a 14ct gold watch, and a silver watch by Gordon and Son, Ballymoney.

Other more unusual lots include a full train set, glass table churn, old Ballymena pump, patio table and chair set, set of balance scales, world globe, gurka and other knives, cased ship compass, very fine small sized piano, unusual sewing machine in cabinet, gingerbread and other mantle clocks, old hand lamps etc.
