First sale of the season a real success

Over 300 parties viewed McAfee Auction sale last week, where approximately 800 lots came under the hammer at a sale of antique and modern furnishings and effects in the Ballymoney sale rooms.

Primarily the contents of two properties, are in Ballymena and the other in Hollywood, Co Down, together with other furnishings from other estates, the sale attracted buyers from north and south, together with numerous email enquires from further afield, resulting in a busy night of telephone bidding, where up to five lines were going for some of the more important lots.

Top price of the night was a D-end extending table from a country house in Derry city, which although needing refurbished realised £525.  Close second was a very nice sized ‘ships piano’ which had been retailed by Harrods of London, and with tough competition realised £500.

Silver was again strong with a smaller three piece tea service realising £420, and gold also did well with a gold curb bracelet realising £360, a 14ct gold topaz and diamond ring £440, 14ct gold pocket watch £310, and other gold inset rings £190, £130, £210 and £90.
