Isobel takes the Chair of Ballymena Floral Art

ISOBEL Petticrew has been elected as the new chairperson of Ballymena Floral Art group.

Outgoing chair, Dr Muriel Whitten handed over her badge at the annual general meeting on May 16, stating she had been honoured to represent the Club during her period of office and extending sincere thanks to club members for their valued support during that time.

Dr Whitten also complimented the Committee who had worked together ‘as one’ to make all events a success.

Margaret Barr was invited to conduct the election of officer bearers resulting in the formation of a new Committee as follows:- Chairman - Isobel Petticrew; V. Chairman - Margaret Johnston; Secretary - Marlene Adams; Asst Secretary - Maureen Baw; Treasurer - Sharon Moon; Asst Treasurer - Margaret Bamford; Magazines - Vera Crabbe; Press Officer - Heather Hume; Additional Committee Member - Sally Armstrong.

Mrs Barr endorsed Dr Whitten’s remarks and thanked her for all her efforts on behalf of the club during her term of office.

The Honorary Secretary’s and Treasurer’s reports for year ended 20 April 2011 were read by Audrey Steede and Avril Kidd respectively and Mavis Speers proposed the adoption of these reports, seconded by Margaret Barr.

In handing over her badge of office to incoming Chairman, Isobel Peticrrew, Dr Whitten extended her very best wishes to Isobel and also to Vice Chairman, Margaret Johnston and newly elected Committee Members.

Having concluded Club business, members were entertained by a ‘Tubs and Pots’ demonstration by Raymond Robinson from Broughshane who also had a wonderful array of summer bedding plants on display for sale. A vote of thanks to Mr Robinson and his wife was given by Evelyn kelso.

Dr Whitten concluded by stating that she looked forward to the Club’s annual outing on June 6 to Ann Graham’s garden, Moneyrea, followed by a visit to Hillmount Garden Centre where refreshments would be served. She also hoped everyone would have a well-earned summer break and looked forward to the new programme of events commencing in September.
