247 public servants paid £100k plus

TWO hundred and forty six civil and public servants - including staff employed by the Western Education and Library Board (WELB), the Western Health and Social Care Trust (WHSCT) and the PSNI - are paid over £100k a year generating an annual bill of at least £22,302,750.

Two hundred and seventeen public servants have an annual salary of at least £100k whilst four are paid over £150k per year. This costs £21,700,000 and £600,000 respectively.

The number of civil servants in Northern Ireland Civil Service Government Departments whose annual salary is in excess of £100,000 is 20. Five are paid over £150k. This costs at least £2m and £750k respectively.

Finance Minister Sammy Wilson announced the expenditure in response to an Assembly Question.

The public servants were employed at National Museums Northern Ireland; Belfast Education & Library Board; Western Education & Library Board; Office of Industrial Tribunals and Fair Employment Tribunal; Invest Northern Ireland; Belfast Health & Social Care Trust; South Eastern Health & Social Care Trust; Western Health & Social Care Trust; Northern Health & Social Care Trust; Southern Health & Social Care Trust; Health & Social Care Board; Northern Ireland Medical and Dental Training Agency; Public Health Agency; Business Services Organisation; Regulatory Quality Improvement Authority; Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service; PSNI; State Pathology; Criminal Justice Inspection Northern Ireland; Police Ombudsman; Northern Ireland Water; Northern Ireland Transport Holding Company/Translink; Northern Ireland Housing Executive; and the Strategic Investment Board.

The Minister explained: “This response is derived from collated part inputs supplied by each Department. Department of Health Social Services and Public Safety (DHSSPS) has confirmed that their response relates to basic pay and does not include additional payments such as clinical excellence awards payable to medical and dental consultants.”
