The ‘Change for Children’ initiative, now in its second year, aims to raise much-needed funds for the NSPCC’s Schools Service, which gives primary school children the awareness they need to recognise abuse, and to seek help sooner.

SPAR stores will also be hosting a range of activities over the fundraising week, including raffles, tea parties, fancy dress days and fun days for families.

NSPCC Northern Ireland corporate fundraising manager, Marie McGuckin, said: “The NSPCC Schools Service has already visited 55,174 children in 697 primary schools across Northern Ireland. Delivered by trained volunteers and provided free to all primary schools, it aims to help children aged 9-11 understand abuse. The service gives them the confidence to talk about it, the knowledge to prevent it and the courage to find help if they ever need it.

To donate to SPAR’s ‘Change for Children’ weekend, simply visit your local SPAR store from 25 until 31 May and give your small change. You can also show your support for local children and families by texting NIChild to 70744 to make a donation of £4.
