Ardboe crash: helicopter and dog search team deployed to find driver who abandoned injured passenger

A helicopter and dog search team were deployed to find a man who fled the scene of a car crash, a court has heard.

Paul Hughes, 24, from Moor Road in Clonoe, admitted failing to report the crash on February 21.

Police reported attending the scene of a crash near Ardboe when a car had struck a wall. The driver had made off, leaving an injured passenger in the car.

Significant resources were deployed to locate the driver but were unsuccessful.

Four days later, Hughes attended Dungannon police station and said that he had panicked and fled the scene after losing control of the car.

District Judge Eamon King handed down five penalty points and a fine of £150.
