Bag charge ‘more than adequate’
The recent charges implemented on single use carrier bags are ‘more than adequate’, members of Carrickfergus Borough Council have said.
The current five pence charge on bags was raised at Monday night’s meeting of the local authority following notification of a proposed Carrier Bag Bill at the Assembly.
“The present charge of 5p per bag is more than adequate; it has achieved its goal which was to reduce consumption of these bags and I feel raising the charge to 10p would not be beneficial to the people of this borough,” said Alderman Jim Brown.
