Bail granted to man facing assault charge

BAIL was granted in the case of a Ballymena man accused of assaulting a woman, thereby occasioning her actual bodily harm, when he appeared via videolink at Ballymena Magistrates Court.

Earlier in the week, Jason Richard Girvin (28), of Moat Road, had been remanded in custody until Thursday, after appearing at Tuesday’s sitting of Antrim Magistrates Court.

At the Thursday sitting, however, Girvin was released on his own bail of 500 to appear again at the same court on October 21.

He was also ordered to reside at his parents’ address; not to enter the Ballee estate; not to have any contact with the alleged injured party or any witness in the case; to be electronically tagged; and to be subject to a curfew and alcohol ban.

Girvin is alleged to have assaulted the woman on September 14.
