Ballycarry residents ‘endangered’ by lack of street lights

Larne councillors have expressed concerns at the number of street lights out of commission in the Ballycarry area.

Mid and East Antrim District Council member Cllr Paul Reid spoke of his “alarm” at the situation, which he claimed was leading to “a lack of security” for local residents.

The DUP representative added that the lack of lighting was “highly dangerous and could potentially lead to an increase in crime”.

Meanwhile, party colleague Councillor Gregg McKeen added: “With so many street lights out, that it could be very difficult to walk safely at night in the area.”

Both councillors called on Transport NI to urgently address the lack of street lighting and said: “Transport NI have a duty of care to ensure the safety of the residents of Ballycarry.”
