Body found following River searches

A man’s body has been found during a search for a missing 21 year old in the River Bann at Kilrea.

The alarm was raised at about 6pm on Saturday when a man went into the water close to the Bann Road Bridge.

Police have said formal identification of the man’s body has not yet taken place and a post mortem examination will be carried out.

Three men aged 25, 26 and 30, were arrested. Two have been since been released pending further enquiries.

The man who went missing on Saturday is from the Ballymena area.

Rescue teams began searching on Saturday night and about 50 volunteers got involved.

On Sunday, small boats were launched on the river as the hunt for the man continued. His body was found on Sunday afternoon.
