He said: “Residents in a housing development in the Ballynahinch Road area of Hillsborough are very agitated and fearful following yet another burglary at the weekend.

“In the aftermath of earlier burglaries, representatives of other political parties met with the PSNI and said that the meetings were productive and that they were provided with assurances by District Commander, Superintendent Sean Wright.

“However, residents with whom I spoke remain dissatisfied with the PSNI approach.

“What they need to see is PSNI personnel on the ground, individuals arrested and held to account with the courts delivering custodial sentences to fit the crime and to act as deterrents.

“The PSNI needs to do better and give high priority to catching the perpetrators whose actions are causing great anxiety in the area.

“The closure of Hillsborough police station and a reduction of police patrols in the area have left Hillsborough residents feeling very vulnerable.”
