Carrick saved by Bell

A LATE David Bell goal, scored directly from a corner, gave Stephen Small’s Carrick Rangers all three Championship 1 points as they won 1-0 away at Ballymoney United on Tuesday night.

Bell’s last-gasp winner cements Rangers’ spot at the top of the league table.

Carrick found themselves up against a well-organised United outfit who kept strikers Anto Lagan and Paul McDowell at bay.

McDowell, a recent signing from Loughgall, almost claimed his first goal for Carrick but his thunderous long-range strike hit the bar.

Ten minutes into the second-half Ballymoney were reduced to 10 men and with Joe McCall’s working extremely hard for the remainder of the game it looked like they had done enough to share a point from the table-toppers.

However, Bell’s 92nd-minute corner looped in over the United stopper, much to the delight of the Carrick players and fans.

Carrick Rangers: McKane, Hogan, McClean, Prenter, Long (Bell) - Harmon, Deans, T. Anderson, Hand (O’Neill) - McDowell, Lagan. Subs: (unused) Stitt (GK), N. Anderson, McConnell.

Result: Ballymoney United 0 v Carrick Rangers 1.

Other Ladbrokes.com IFA Championship result: Loughgall 1 v Harland and Wolff Welders 2.
