“I was delighted to mark World Diabetes Day and this particularly resonated with us,” said the Mayor. “I chose the Diabetes Unit at the Lagan Valley Hospital as my Mayoral Charity.

“I am aware of the enormous pressures on people who suffer from Diabetes and the condition affects all parts of your life. I have been a diabetes sufferer since I was seven years old.

“Diabetes is a growing problem in society and brings huge challenges to sufferers of this condition; as well as significant pressures on the Lagan Valley Hospital. Hilda Francey is a specialist nurse at the Unit and the care she and her team provide to patients in this very busy clinic is absolutely first-rate.”
