Council approves funding for Christmas celebrations

THE council has set aside a budget of almost £40,000 for this year's Christmas celebrations.

At their monthly meeting, members of the local authority’s Development Committee approved funding of 24,250 for Christmas tree lighting ceremonies and a civic carol service, and 15,000 for two main events in Glengormley and Ballyclare.

Following the success of the ‘Big Nights Out’ in the towns last year, members gave the green light for a similar programme of entertainment this November.

Glengormley’s Big Night Out is due to take place on November 20, with the Ballyclare event scheduled for seven days later.

Additional activities being organised for Glengormley on November 20 and in Ballyclare on December 11, as requested by local business representatives, will be paid for by a contribution of 3,000 from the Town Centre Management Working Group and an award of 6,000 from the council’s Community Festivals Fund.
