Crazy over paving in Waringstown

The footpath in question on the village-bound side of the Banbridge Road in Waringstown in front of the wall at Waring House was repaired by Road Service several weeks ago, it’s been claimed.

Since then Waringstown resident Trevor Trimble told the ‘MAIL’ how he watched the thoroughfare deteriorate to the point it now looks like crazy paving.

Trevor said: “They were down working at it six to eight weeks ago. Since that time the footpath has got worse. There’s cracks all over it. It looks like crazy paving.

“There’s bad areas marked out in yellow paint for repair, but there’s even worse parts that haven’t been marked for repair.”

It’s not known what has caused the footpath to crumble, but there are some signs that suggest a heavy vehicle may have mounted the footpath.

Trevor commented: “My main concern is the potential trip hazard given that the surface is uneven. Lots of people use this road to walk their dogs or take their children for a walk.”

Trevor had a further example of what he claims is poor workmanship by Road Service: “Not that long ago they were sent out to fix a lot of potholes,” he said.

“There were three men, two lorries, and one trailer and it took them three hours to mend two potholes. They weren’t half mended they had to come back and do it again.”

Trevor added: “The amount of money that’s being wasted is unreal. More money spent on administration and bureaucracy than on actual roads.”

Road Service attended the problem pavement in Waringstown on Monday morning.

A spokesperson commented: “Roads Service is undertaking normal routine inspections in the area and repairing any actionable defects.”
