Craigavon firm fined for illegally disposing of waste

A Craigavon company has pleaded guilty at Craigavon Magistrates Court to illegally disposing of waste.

Down Developments Limited was fined £1,500 for three charges of unauthorised waste offending.

The company was also ordered to pay court costs of £10, an offenders’ levy of £15 and a compensation order of £3,454.36.

Following an investigation by the Northern Ireland Environment Agency, the company was found guilty of treating and depositing waste – concrete, brick, soil, clay, plastic, treated wood and metals – at its base in Quarry Business Park, Lurgan between January and September 2013.

Down Developments is a Lurgan-based firm specialising in the refurbishment and maintenance sectors.

It has a portfolio of clients in the public sector and carries out work in hospitals, schools, local authorities, housing association and specialist client facilities.
