Heavy drug user is jailed for 15 months for drug charges

A Londonderry man who sold drugs to help pay off his debts was jailed for 15 months when the case against him came before Londonderry Crown Court.

In the dock was Brian Thomas Boyle (24), of Glenabbey Park, who pleaded guilty to possessing and supplying drugs.

The Court was told that Boyle was known as ‘Bam Bam’ and that he had been caught with quantities of the illegal substances ecstasy, mephedrone and one known as ‘4-MEC’ when stopped and searched by police at Butcher Street in the city centre in September of last year.

The court was told that Boyle’s mobile phone was also seized as part of the operation and that when and examined it was found to include incriminating drugs-related text messages.

One of the texts, the court heard, was from a person not satisfied with the quality of drugs he’d received from Boyle.

A pre-sentence report described Boyle as a heavy drug user, and it was revealed he sold drugs his own habit and to pay off debt. Jailing Boyle for 15 months, half of which will be served in custody and the other half on licence, Judge Philip Babington said people who dealt in drugs would go to prison because their actions resulted in untold misery.
