It’s never too late to learn with the Monday Club

MONDAY week saw the successfully completion of the Monday Club’s ‘It’s Never too Late to Learn’ programme.

This was a peace building programme funded by Cookstown District Council through the EU’s Programme for Peace and Reconciliation (PEACE III) which is managed by the Special EU Programmes Body.

The programme saw the group, whose members come from both Catholic and Protestant traditions in the Cookstown district, visit locations and listen to talks significant to the both traditions.

The aim of the programme was to develop the understanding and knowledge the members had of each other’s heritage and cultures. Pat Bownes from the Monday club explains, “It was a very worthwhile programme for all who participated,” explained Pat Bownes of the Monday Club.

“It’s definitely fair to say ‘you are never too late to learn’ as everyone learned something they never knew about each other, their traditions and cultures.”

The above programme is one of various PEACE III projects being delivered by Cookstown District Council to address racism and sectarianism in the district.
