Deaf charity takes 681 sessions

DUNGIVEN community charity Hands That Talk took 681 sign language interpretation sessions under its contract with the Western Trust over the past two years.

Health Minister Edwin Poots revealed the extent of the charity’s activity in response to an Assembly Question. He explained that all the sessions were carried out by registered interpreters.

He stated: “The number of bookings for sign language interpreting sessions taken by Hands That Talk under their contract with the Western Health and Social Care Trust was 330 in 2009/10 and 351 in 2010/11.

“All of these sessions were carried out by interpreters registered by NRCPD as a Member of the Register of Sign Language Interpreters.”
