Drumahoe man accused ofharassing ex-partner

A twenty-six-year-old man from Drumahoe has appeared in Londonderry Magistrates’ Court accused of harassing his ex-partner.

Paul Burke, of Copperthorpe, Drumahoe, is charged with harassing the woman on December 9.

Londonderry Magistrates’ Court heard allegations Burke sent threatening messages to the complainant and her sister on Facebook.

He also allegedly sent his ex-partner text messages which caused the woman concern.

An investigating officer for the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) told Londonderry Magistrates’ Court that the complainant was at ‘high risk’ of domestic incidents.

The officer added that there was a bail address which was agreeable to police, in conjunction with other conditions.

Londonderry District Judge Barney McElholm released the 26-year-old on his own bail of £750 to reside at an address in Eglinton Terrace.

Burke is banned from contacting his ex-partner or any prosecution witness and from entering Copperthorpe.

Judge McElholm warned the defendant that ‘no contact with his ex-partner means no contact whatwoever.

This includes by means of texting, of phoning, of posting messages on Facebook or of getting anyone else to make contact on your behalf.

The defendant is due to appear in Londonderry Magistrates’ Court again on January 7.
