Eglinton cleaning team recognised

CLEANING staff at Eglinton Primary were recently selected finalists for the British Institute of Cleaning Science cleaning awards from 41 entries across Northern Ireland.

Basil McCrea MLA and UUP spokesperson for Education attended the British Institute of Cleaning Science (BICS) annual cleaning awards last week to support the event in light of the industry's contribution to training and education.

Out of the entries which came from right across the province and represented the private sector (both local and international), Government bodies, and all levels of education, the school's hardworking cleaning team took home the prestigious 'Cleaning Team of the Year Award'. Local women Edwina Thompson and Jacqueline McIlwee from Eglinton Primary collected the award.

Speaking at the event, Basil McCrea MLA said; "I am proud to be attending this award ceremony today, and am deeply impressed by the hard work and efforts of the cleaning team from Eglinton Primary School.

"Those in the cleaning industry are the unsung heroes of day to day life and I am pleased that the BICSc has gone to such great length to recognise those who are very rarely commended.

"BICSc is able to operate as an educational body to assist those within this sector who would want to expand their job opportunities, or advance their careers; offering basic cleaning certificates right through to third level education opportunities.

"Education should be available for everyone, and the BICSc dedicated efforts are enhancing local people's prospects, and regulating the industry so that schools like Eglinton Primary School can continue to offer the meticulous standard for our children that they do."
