Elderly man’s home targetted in weekend petrol bomb attack in Dunmurry

Police are linking two petrol bomb attacks one of which occurred at an elderly man’s home in Dunmurry in the early hours of Sunday.

A second unexploded petrol bomb was found in the driveaway and was taken away by police for forensic examinations.

Minor damage was caused to the door.

No one is believed to have been inside at the time. Later at around 2.45am, a petrol bomb was also thrown at a house at Thornhill Crescent.

Two people were inside at the time but were not injured.

A silver Vauxhall Zafira was also extensively damaged after it was set alight in a suspected arson.

Area Commander, Chief Inspector of Lisburn PSNI John Wilson who are investigating the incident said: “Enquiries are continuing, but at this stage police are investigating a possible link between an earlier incident that occurred at the Cloona Manor area and the incidents at Thornhill Crescent.

“I would ask anyone who may have witnessed this incident or who has any information to contact Police in Lisburn on the non-emergency number 101. “Or, if someone would prefer to provide information without giving their details, they can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers and speak to them anonymously on 0800 555 111.”

Sinn Fein MLA Jennifer McCann said it was fortunate no one was injured in this attack on the home of the elderly man.
