Council plan

Securing £1m of funding to help small and medium sized businesses in Craigavon, completing the £25m new leisure centre in Craigavon, finishing the £2m second phase of public realm works in Lurgan and refurbishing two community centres in Portadown are just some of the projects Council is working on.

“There are five main themes overall,” commented Chief Executive Dr Theresa Donaldson, “which translate into real action plans. There is no doubt these are going to be really challenging for Council, particularly in the current economic climate. However, we will deliver for our ratepayers.”

Other ambitions include introducing and developing an inclusive fitness programme for people with disabilities and increasing their participation rates by 50% at selected locations, achieving a recycling rate of 40%, completing a number of priorities for certain villages under the Village Plan process and working with partners in developing a shadow Youth Council.

The plan is easily read and outlines how ratepayers will know if Council has delivered on its promises. With both members, staff, community and statutory representatives who were consulted throughout the planning process attending the launch, the corporate plan has a real community feel.

Councillor Alan Carson, the Mayor of Craigavon concluded: “ It’s only when you see these plans on paper that you see how Council interacts with people in their daily lives. We are confident we can deliver against this programme. What we have achieved and will do over the next three years will provide a legacy for our residents and we hope future generations as well”.
