Ethan’s new style to boost children’s charity

Ethan Booth had his 10 inch long locks cut last week in support of the Little Princess Trust.

The 11-year-old’s donated tresses will be made into a wig to help a child who has lost their hair through cancer treatment or other illnesses.

Ethan is also raising funds through sponsorship for the charity and for the Northern Ireland Children’s Hospice.

The idea for the venture initially came from Ethan’s sister Ruby, explained their mum Gail. “She has very long hair and she was going to get it cut for [the Trust], but Ethan’s starting at Campbell College in September and they don’t allow boys to have hair longer than collar length,” she said.

“He thought it would be a good idea to donate his hair rather than just throwing it away.”

Short hair will be something of a change for the Whitehead youngster, whose long blonde locks were a defining feature.

“I’ve been growing it for three or four years,” said Ethan, whose new style was created at Hairtopia on Balmoral Avenue.

The fundraising efforts have been strongly supported by Whitehead Primary, where pupils were eagerly awaiting Ethan’s new look on Friday morning.

“There’s a sponsorship forms in the Candy Box on Kings Road and people can donate online. We’re just hoping to raise as much as possible,” added Gail, from Donegal Avenue in the town.
