Experts focus on opportunities in the cloud

A FREE conference held in the City Hotel last week highlighted the wealth of opportunities enabled by the region's improved connectivity and technology infrastructure.

The "Opportunities in the Cloud" seminar, hosted by Derry City Council in association with Invest Northern Ireland, featured presentations from key organisations involved in telecommunications and cloud computing including BT and Dell and representatives from the Northern Ireland Software Innovation Network, supported by Invest Northern Ireland.

As Matt Peachey from Derry City Council explained: "With the huge improvements in connectivity offered by Project Kelvin and new offerings from BT and others all coming on stream in the next few months, Northern Ireland - and the North West in particular - is fast becoming one of the best connected places in Europe.

"This seminar was designed specifically to address the question of what that means for our local businesses, from software companies to TV producers, in terms of new opportunities."

Des Gartland from Invest Northern Ireland added: "Invest NI sees world-class connectivity as an important element to our regional offering. "As well as helping us to attract inward investment to Northern Ireland, particularly from companies needing to move large volumes of data at speed, enhanced connectivity will also play an important role in helping our indigenous companies to competitively take their offerings to global markets."
