Few pupils don't have English

Hardly any primary schools in the Londonderry, Limavady and Strabane area had significant numbers of children who didn't speak English or Irish as their first language last year.

In Londonderry, Chapel Road Primary School, was the only school with a significant number - just ten pupils.

There were eight such pupils at Ballykelly Primary School, seven at Limavady Central and eight at St Canice’s in Dungiven.

There were eighteen pupils who had neither English nor Irish as a first language at St Patrick’s, Castlederg.

The figures for the 2014/15 academic year were released by Education Minister John O’Dowd in response to an Assembly Question tabled by UKIP MLA David McNarry.
