Flower to the people! Ahoghill goes for gold

Ahead of the international judges arriving, Bannside TUV councillors Ald Stewart McDonald and Cllr Timothy Gaston have spoken of their pride in the local village which is in contention for the prestigious ‘Communities in Bloom’ award.

Alderman Stewart McDonald said: “As a local resident, I’m very proud of the work that has been carried out. The community has once again come together and rolled up their sleeves to put Ahoghill in contention on the international stage. This has been a real community effort and shows our village at its best.”

And the deputy Mayor of Mid & East Antrim, Cllr. Timothy Gaston added:

Councillor Timothy Gaston added: “Great credit must go to the local volunteers for their hard work and dedication. “I must pay tribute to the community in both Ahoghill and Glenarm, who are the only representatives from the whole UK taking part in this worldwide competition. I believe what both villages have to offer will take some beating! I wish both Ahoghill and Glenarm every success.

“Tnight will mark another significant milestone for Mid and East Antrim, when Her Majesty’s Lord Lieutenant for County Antrim Mrs Joan Christie OBE, will present Ahoghill with the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service. This award is richly deserved. It is a tribute to all the hard work and dedication within the local community, and I’m looking forward to joining in the celebration. It once again shows the real community spirit within the village.”
