Former BBC controller speaks to Probus Club

MEMBERS convened for their first post Christmas meeting at Portstewart Golf Club.

The speaker was Robin Walsh, a former Controller of BBC Northern Ireland.

Robin gave a most entertaining and very informative talk ranging from his role with the Lottery, run by Camelot, to his role in the media.

Robin recalled his days as News Editor with UTV back in the dark days of our ‘Troubles’, covered with such small resources and his move to the BBC.

He spoke about covering ‘The Troubles’ and the sensitive nature in which this had to be done but also recalled the good news - Mary Peters’ success at the Munich Games!

Robin took questions from members. A vote of thanks was proposed by Aubrey McElhinney, who congratulated Robin on his most interesting and wide ranging talk. This was duly passed on by the President Ross Torrens.
