French to honour veterans

East Antrim MP Sammy Wilson has encouraged veterans of D-Day or Battle for Normandy, the Invasion of Provence and the Liberation of France to apply for the Award of the Legion D’Honneur.

The Government of France has advised the Ministry of Defence that it wishes to award the Legion D’Honneur to all surviving veterans, not only those who were involved in the D-Day landings but anyone who was involved in the liberation of any part of France.

Mr. Wilson said: “I am sure many of those who were involved in the fighting in 1944 will be appreciative of the offer by the French government and I hope that surviving veterans will avail themselves of the honour that has now been offered. This includes, not only troops, but also members of the Royal Navy and the Royal Air Force.
