‘Friends’ have plans for park

In this, the same week that saw a fresh call go out for determined efforts to tackle drinking and vandalism in the park, the doors were thrown open for locals to help shape its future.

Separate to concerns over anti-social behaviour, it was announced that the ‘Friends of Dromore Town Park’ - intended as a committee of public representatives and residents - are to meet early next month in Dromore Town Hall.

There they hope to swell their numbers and gather up ideas and suggestions for improving the park precinct itself.

A spokesperson said, “‘Friends of Dromore Town Park’ are having a meeting in Dromore Town Hall, which will provide an opportunity for local people to share ideas and put forward suggestions that will enhance and improve the park to make it a more inviting place for all users.”

Going forward, the committee aims to preserve the park and develop its potential.

“Friends of Dromore Town Park’ is intended,” the spokesperson said, “ to be a committee of both council representatives and members of the public, with a focus on improving and preserving Dromore Park throughout the foreseeable future.

“It is hoped that the park will be developed through different projects and community initiatives, organised collectively by the ‘Friends of Dromore Town Park’ committee and various community groups. “

The upcoming public meeting will lay out the group’s overall aims and it is hoped more people will take the opportunity to join the ranks.

“The informal meeting,” the spokesperson said, “invites local residents and businesses to come along to hear more about future developments and learn about ‘Friends of Dromore Town Park’ and their role.

“It will also provide them with the opportunity to sign up to the committee. “

The meetings is to take place in Dromore Town Hall from 7-8.30pm on Wednesday, August 7.
