GB finds new home with Whiteabbey Methodist

A WHITEABBEY Girls’ Brigade company which was forced to leave the church it had been associated with for more than half a century has found a new home.

Last week the Times revealed how the 133rd Whiteabbey GB company had to quit Whiteabbey Congregational Church after officers were told that the organisation was no longer compatible with the church’s beliefs. The move came after the church, under the leadership of Rev Paul Dowling, adopted a new doctrinal statement and constitution and implemented a series of reforms concerning church membership and praise.

While Rev Dowling said he would be happy for the 133rd GB to continue in another church, the Girls’ Brigade has confirmed that the company has been closed and must now start up again under a different company number.

This week, delighted officers of the 133rd Whiteabbey revealed that they will start a new company in nearby Whiteabbey Methodist Church from September.
