Henderson Group truck pull set to raise vital funds for Mater Hospital

Frankie Whiteside, who was Logistics Manager for Henderson Wholesale, worked for the company for 32 years before his death in May.

The Frankie Whiteside Memorial Fund has been set up by a charity team within the Henderson Group to raise money to buy cutting edge technology to help patients in the Intensive Care Unit in Belfast’s Mater Hospital.

The team in the Mater’s ICU cared for Mr Whiteside before his death and his former colleagues wish to repay the doctors and nurses for their work and help continue care for patients in the ICU.

To kick off the fundraising efforts, the truck pull has been organised at the Glenwell Spar in this Saturday in Glengormley from 10am.

Teams of eight will pull one of the Henderson Group lorries the three-and-a-half miles from the store to the Mater Hospital where the medical team who cared for Mr Whiteside will greet them.

Pat McGarry, Operations Manager for Henderson, said: “When Frankie passed away, we decided that we had to keep his memory alive so we have set up the Frankie Whiteside Memorial Fund.

“It is our hope that over time, we will raise enough money to purchase the new technology for the Intensive Care Unit so the team can provide the highest level of care for patients.

“We hope that the public will come out to support us on Saturday morning to help us in our efforts to raise money for this important equipment.”
