Henry calls for free bin replacement

Billy Henry commended an Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough Council scheme for replacing broken or damaged black bins for free, instead of the usual £30 charge.

Up until last Friday, Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough Council was offering to replace bins for free of charge.

It had been agreed by the council’s Operations Committee on Monday, October 5, that council would waive the normal costs to residents to replace a damaged black bin for a period of one month.

The scheme ended at 5pm on Friday, October 30.

Responding to Antrim and Newtownabbey’s actions, Cllr. Henry, who represents the Bannside district of Mid and East Antrim, said: “I congratulate them, this is a wonderful gesture and one that should be rolled out across other council areas.”

Cllr. Henry said he had been in contact with Mid and East Antrim Council to request a similar scheme.

“I have been in touch with the relevant director, within Mid and East Antrim Borough Council, seeking some clarity and requesting the same gesture be afforded to the people of Bannside, and indeed all the constituents of the Mid and East Antrim area,” Cllr. Henry said.
