Ilex board member reappointed to Invest NI board

ILEX board member Frank Hewitt has been reappointed to the board of Invest Northern Ireland (Invest NI).

The Department of Enterprise Trade and Investment (DETI) last week announced the reappointment of eight members.

Mr Hewitt is Chairman of the Northern Ireland Science Park (NISP), a DETI nominated member of the NISP Foundation (not remunerated), a board member of the Ilex Urban Regeneration Company (remuneration £400 per day – max two days a month), a board member of the BIG Lottery Fund UK and Chairman of the BIG Lottery Fund NI Committee.

He is also currently Honorary Consul for the Federal Republic of Germany.

Between 2002 and 2008 he was CEO of the Northern Ireland Chamber of Commerce with overall responsibility for management of the Chamber including financial management, strategic development, business development, and communications.

Prior to this he was Deputy Secretary with responsibility for Corporate Services in Department of Culture Arts and Leisure for 18 months. During this time he was the DCAL representative on the board of Odyssey Trust.

Between 1996 and 2000 he held the post of Chief Executive of the Northern Ireland Growth Challenge, a private sector organisation established to take a private sector approach to economic development in Northern Ireland.

Mr Hewitt has many years of industrial development experience with the former Industrial Development Board and was formerly IDB Deputy Chief Executive with overall responsibility for inward investment.

Since December 2010 Mr Hewitt has also been appointed as a non executive board member of the Strategic Investment Board (remuneration £11,000 pa).

He will take his place on the Invest NI board alongside Mr Roy Adair, Mr Tim Brundle, Dr David Dobbin CBE, Mr Mark Ennis, Mr Frank Hewitt, Dr Alan Lennon OBE, Professor Gerry McCormac, and Mr Gerry McGinn were made to the Board of Invest Northern Ireland for a period of three years, effective from 1 April 2011.

The reappointments have been made in accordance with the Code of Practice of the Office of the Commissioner for Public Appointments, Northern Ireland.

None of the reappointees has carried out any political activity in the last five years. Invest NI Board members currently receive an annual remuneration of £11,635.
