'It could happen to a Bishop'

DISTRICT Judge Richard Wilson said getting caught for speeding at the overtaking lane on the Frosses Road near Dunloy "could happen to a Bishop or even a barrister".

And a defence lawyer replied: “It has”.

The comments came at North Antrim Magistrates Court last Wednesday where 59-year-old builder Thomas Taggart of Main Street, Ballintoy, was fined 60 and given three penalty points for speeding on the Frosses Road.

He was detected driving at 79mph in the 60mph zone on January 20 this year.

A defence lawyer said his client was offered a fixed penalty ticket but due to changing address the letter went to his former home.

He said his client was overtaking a lorry and in the course of that he noticed a car in front of the lorry and with a car behind him he was unable to slow down and pull back in.
