Join forces for prostate cancer drive

Action Cancer leaflets which explain the symptoms of prostate cancer, such as pain when passing urine or the need to urinate three or four times a night, will be available in advance of Prostate Cancer Awareness Week March 10-16 at all local Gordons outlets across Northern Ireland.

The leaflet is called ‘Find out about Prostate Cancer – Rapid Diagnosis Could Save Your Life!’

Prostate Cancer is the second most common male cancer in Northern Ireland, mainly affecting men over the age of 50 with risk increasing with age. Here the disease causes more than 200 deaths a year.

Action Cancer Head of Professional Services Geraldine Kerr said; “Prostate cancer is now easier to detect and treat, but it is important that men come forward as early as possible if they find they have any of the symptoms. Some symptoms are similar to those of less serious conditions, but it is always better to get things checked out. If men are concerned after reading the leaflet they should visit their GP for further investigation. We are delighted to have the support of Gordons Chemists for this awareness campaign as it will lead to a better understanding of prostate cancer and help save lives.” Gordons Chemists has supported Action Cancer for the past 4 years, with staff fundraising and promotion of cancer awareness campaigns in-store, including the annual Breast Cancer Awareness Month campaign each October. The company has raised in excess of £138,000 for the charity’s services.
