Landhead Primary parents and pupils ‘coining it in’ for charity

Erin Brolly, who is also the charity co-ordinator at Landhead Primary School, said that money had poured in from parents before they had received letters making them aware of what the school had planned.

Landhead always raise money for good causes throughout the year in small fundraising efforts, but this time they have thrown all their eggs into one basket by having a single initiative which will benefit The Children’s Ward at Causeway Hospital and The Bohill Bungalows for Learning Disabilities.

As is the practice with most schools, Landhead’s School Council chose one of the charities – the Causeway Hospital, while teachers were influenced by a close friend’s association with the Bohill Bungalows.

The fundraising event revolves around a coppers’ collection, a teddy bear raffle and a sponsored read.

Miss Brolly and other teachers reckon that the pupils and parents have already gathered up more than £500 worth of 1p and 2p pieces.

And it is estimated that the Teddy Bear Raffle could fetch more than one hundred pounds.

It is not yet known how much the sponsored read will yield.

Miss Brolly was full of praise for parents who had “shown tremendous generosity” in sending coppers.

“In the first week we had an amazing amount of jars full of money which was really encouraging,” Miss Brolly told the Times.

A sponsored read last Thursday will also contribute to the collection.
