Latest: Trio injured at NW200 pictured on the mend in hospital

A picture has emerged of the three local riders injured at the North West 200, as they continue their recovery at Belfast's Royal Victoria Hospital.

Nico Mawhinney from Castledawson sits between the beds of Dungannon’s Ryan Farquhar and Coleraine’s Paul Gartland.

All three appear to be well and truly on the mend.

A post on the NW 200 Facebook site said: “We are all very happy to see this picture.

“Ryan Farquhar, Nico Mawhinney and Paul Gartland who were injured at this year’s Vauxhall International North West 200 continue to improve in hospital.”

Ryan Farquhar was moved out of intensive care on Monday, while Nico and Paul’s injuries were not deemed to be critical.

A message on Castledawson Life said: “Great news, and relief to family, friends and community. Castledawson’s Nico Mawhinney (centre) continues to improve in hospital.

“Also on the mend are Ryan Farquhar (left) and Paul Gartland (right). The trio were injured at the North West 200 but, judging by this latest photo, spirits are high and it offers great hope for recovery!”
