'Little Horse Trust' hosts open day

'A LITTLE Horse Trust' is holding an Open Day on Saturday, October 9, from 1pm until 4pm at 28 Hunters Hill Road, Gilford.

The event will be held in the indoor stable complex, so it will be a great day out for all the family, even if it rains!

Admission is free and everyone is welcome to attend.

‘A Little Horse Trust’ was set up over two years ago at a stable yard in Gilford. The aim of the Trust is “to provide an interactive learning experience of horses and their care, in a safe, controlled environment to small groups of adults or children who may never have had the opportunity to enjoy these delightful animals”.

The star attraction at the yard is the Trust’s very own pony, Connor. Connor is an exceptionally quiet pony who just loves people and getting lots of attention. Connor is a suitable height for both children and small adults (up to 12 stone or 76kg) to ride and has given many people the confidence to have their first ride due to his placid temperament and his willingness to stand perfectly still whilst visitors learn how to climb on and get themselves comfortable!

Visits to the Trust can be arranged for individuals and families as well as small groups and all visits are completely free.

This is made possible thanks to corporate sponsors Wayne Morgan Oils, Surefoot Farriers, the Northern Bank, Bracken Equestrian and Johnston’s Saddlery. They are also greatly supported by donations from the public, as well as the proceeds from their gift stall which you may have seen at local fairs and agricultural shows.

At the Open Day there will be plenty to see and do. You can learn more about the Trust and speak to one of the many Trustees and volunteers who will be there on the day.

You can meet the Trust’s pony ‘Connor’ as well as some of the miniature horses at the stable yard. The gift stall will also be open.

Other attractions include a lucky dip, a catering van offering fresh fish and chips, and a raffle with a variety of prizes, including some kindly provided by ‘Mr Chips’, the ‘Spar’ in Gilford and the Northern Bank.

Go along on October 9 and show your support for a local charity. For directions or further information please call Margaret on 3883 2353.
