Local arrests in organised crime investigation

Detectives from the PSNI Organised Crime Branch are questioning five people arrested in Ballymena and Scotland on Wednesday as part of an ongoing proactive investigation into money laundering and insurance fraud, it has just emerged.

The five were among seven individuals arrested yesterday, Wednesday, May 29.

A police spokesperson said six people were arrested in the Ballymena area - three men aged 53, 31 and 45 and three women aged 50, 26 and 46. A 52 year old man was also arrested in Scotland and was brought to Northern Ireland for interview.

The 45-year-old man and 46-year-old woman were released on bail on Wednesday night pending further enquiries.

In addition, a number of searches were carried out at various locations in Ballymena, Belfast, Antrim, and Glenavy.

The police spokesperson said enquiries by detectives from Organised Crime Branch are expected to continue for some time.
