Local vigilance stops burglary

Three males were arrested following an alleged attempted burglary on Huntly Road.

Police received a report of three males being disturbed as they attempted to gain entry to a shed on Huntly Road around 8pm on Tuesday, 24 November. The males made off.

Officers attended immediately and a Honda car was stopped as police conducted searches of the local area. A 28 year old man and 25 year old man were arrested for going equipped and attempted burglary. The car was seized by police and officers arrested a third man a short time later. The 23 year old was also arrested for going equipped and attempted burglary.

The three are currently assisting police with their enquiries into the matter.

Chief Inspector Davy Beck said: “We have stated our commitment to keeping people safe in Banbridge and we have emphasised the importance of early reporting and vigilance from the public.

“This shows how successful we can be in tackling crime when we work together.”

Thanking local people for their help on their Facebook page, as police spokesperson said: “We want to say a massive thank you for the vigilance and early reporting which helped us to arrest three people for attempted burglary.

“We received a report of three males who were disturbed while attempting to gain entry to a shed. We often say that your help is essential in helping us to tackle crime and this shows how successful we can be when we work together.”
