Local woman 'shoved' guard during dispute

A BALLYMENA woman who "shoved" a security guard during a dispute in a shopping centre has been given a nine-month conditional discharge.

Donna McAlonan (24), of Larne Road, admitted a charge of common assault when she appeared at Ballymena Magistrates Court.

The court was told the assault occurred during a disturbance in the shopping centre on November 5 last year.

McAlonan told police that at the time of the offence, she had been abusing mephedrone.

Solicitor Liam Donnelly said McAlonan has “totally changed her life around”.

“She is attending church and is in full-time employment,” the solicitor added.

Sentencing McAlonan, District Judge Des Perry told her: “You seem to be putting your life in order - keep up the good work.”
