Lord Mayor voices his concern over Craigavon job losses

Cllr Causby, Lord Mayor of Armagh, Banbridge and Craigavon Council expressed his concern at the news that 75 jobs are to be lost in the area as a result,

He said: “This is a devastating blow for the local economy. At a time when the council is prioritising local job creation, this news is extremely disheartening.

“B&Q have vowed to redeploy staff where possible, but we will also be seeking support from the Department of Employment and Learning to help the affected people find suitable alternative employment.”

In March 2015, B&Q confirmed plans to reduce its selling space by around 15 per cent across the UK over the next two years.

B&Q have said that they will endeavour to find positions for as many employees who are affected by the change as possible, either at the four remaining B&Q stores or elsewhere in the Kingfisher Group - they also own Screwfix which opened a store in Lurgan last year.

In addition, B&Q is in discussion with other retailers about the future of the store locations and job opportunities.
