Lurgan four aiming to make big impression

This weekend could be a big one for Lurgan bowlers Alan Roberts, Alan Briggs, Michael Bunting and Ivor Mitchell who have made it through to the semi-final stage of this season’s NIBA Senior Fours competition.

Tonight (Thursday) at 5.30pm they meet Jim Kane’s Balmoral rink on the Carrickfergus Green and are hopeful of a win which would take them through to the final on Saturday at the same venue. If they make it they are assured of a place in the Irish Bowling Association’s Championship Semi-finals in September.

The Lurgan four have made their way through from first round with significant wins on the way; beating R Cromie’s Rathfriland rink 23-10 to the second round and then to defeat a strong Castle rink, skipped by Matt Stevenson, 23-11.

The third round was a walk-over against Billy Martin’s Portadown, who unfortunately due to illness amongst his rink could not field a team on the night.
