Magherafelt man fined for operating taxi service without licence

A Magherafelt driver was fined a total of £790 and had his drivers licence endorsed with seven penalty points, a court has heard.

Mr Philip Gerard Eves of Guasson Villas, Ballyronan, Magherafelt, pleaded guilty to the offences and was fined £150 for using an unlicensed taxi, £150 for failing to hold a Taxi Operators Licence and £450 for using an uninsured vehicle. He was also ordered to pay £25 court costs and a £15 offender levy.

On 30 November 2013, DVA Enforcement Officers detected the defendant using his private motor car to transport passengers to the Glenavon Hotel Cookstown for reward.

When challenged about the matter he denied receiving payment in respect of the journey he had just undertaken, however further investigation revealed that money had changed hands. Mr Eves was subsequently interviewed in connection with the matter.
