Man airlifted to hospital from Rathlin

An elderly has been airlifted to hospital from Rathlin Island after he was trapped in his 4x4

The man’s vehicle rolled down a hill on the island around 7am on Wednesday.

Volunteer firefighters from the island’s Fire Station and the Coastguard responded to the incident.

Fire crews stabilised the vehicle and cut the man free.

He was put on a spinal board and taken in an ambulance to the island’s aircraft landing point. An ambulance service spokesperson said the man had non-life threatening injuries.

He was then airlifted to Coleraine’s Causeway Hospital in a Royal Navy helicopter.

He is said to be in a stable condition.
