Meeting over oil well plans

‘Greater consultation’ should have occurred over plans to drill an exploration well in Woodburn forest, residents have claimed.

Members of the public aired their views at an information evening in Greenisland Football Club earlier this month. It was the latest in a series by environmental group No Fracking Northern Ireland, which raised concerns the proposals could lead to the controversial method of extraction - something the company behind the plan ruled out - if a viable source of fuel was found. Dawn Patterson from No Fracking NI said: “The meeting went very well; it seems people all think they should have had a lot more information and consultation from the political representatives before this [planning application] was allowed.”
