Moortown residents witness first hand the '˜deadly outcome of a road crash'

Players from Moortown GAC joined police, ambulance and the council for a road safety event that saw real life incidents played out at their grounds.

The aim of the event was to raise awareness of road safety messages and show those present the reality of a traffic collision.

A spokesperson for the club said: “Moortown GAC hosted the Live to Play campaign at their new pitches at Anneter on Thursday evening.

“The event helped to deliver the road safety message to all road users – drivers, passengers and pedestrians – all of whom must play their part in keeping us safe on our roads.

“On the night the audience gained insight into the danger on our roads from both the PSNI Roads Policing Unit, the Order of Malta Ambulance service and the Fire & Rescue Service. Those in attendance were able to experience first hand the response to a traffic collision with a simulated crash involving several young people.

“Many thanks to everyone who attended on the night and a special word of thanks to everyone who helped to organise or contributed to the event, especially Grace McGuigan.”
